Recomenzar dijo...: Jez and Mark are pitiful. But despite their routinely atrocious behaviour, deep down it’s impossible not to quite like them. Crucially, there’s the odd shard of real friendship. Mark is mugged and Jez is genuinely concerned at his lack of worldliness. During Mark’s nightmarish wedding to Sophie (Olivia Colman), the pair achieve a sort of excruciating, twisted solidarity – like they’ve plumbed the depths together and consequently have nowhere to turn but to each other. But most of all, they make us feel better about ourselves. Had a bad day? Well at least you haven’t found yourself in a situation in which the only feasible escape route involved cooking and eating your girlfriend’s dog.
